Halloween Celebration Tips

Princess Know-It-All is back, after a long month of school, work, and getting back into the fall routine!
It's October now--in fact, late October. And it's time to get out your box of old Halloween costumes from your basement or the back of your closet--or head to the mall and get in a bit of Halloween shopping! Whether you're going trick-or-treating or not, it's always fun to dress up and junk food. Here's a list of some of the best ways to celebrate this fun holiday.

  1. Trick-or-treating! This fun tradition may be aimed toward the younger crowd, but you can trick-or-treat your way through middle school too. Some of my favorite memories of Halloween were of my friends and I staying up late and then trading candy even later into the night.
  2. Halloween costume parties! Gathering together with a bunch of friends, eating food, watching scary movies, and dancing away to Thriller is always fun, plus you can do it all the way through high school if you don't want to mix with the trick-or-treating little kids anymore. You can also play fun games and Halloween pranks.
  3. Sleepovers. Parties are great for a bigger group, but you can also hang with just your BFFs, watch scary movies, tell ghost stories in your sleeping bags with a only a flashlight, and Truth or Dare. For more sleepover ideas, check out the How-To Guide of an Evilly Awesome Sleepover.
  4. Go to the Halloween dance! I don't know about you, but my school has a Halloween dance where you dress up (usually more for the costume contest) and just dance and eat food and stuff. I know. I'm great at the details. You could just go have fun at the dance and go home whenever you feel like it.
  5. Go to the movie theater. Sometimes they show a scary movie just for Halloween, and it's fun to go and hang with your besties and get totally freaked out.
I hope this list helped you decide what fun thing to do on Halloween! And remember, if all else fails, go wait for the Great Pumpkin at the pumpkin patch. LOL (see what I did there?). Have a great Halloween!

Friendship or Friendless?

Princess Know-It-All is here, today with a bit of advice for all those people who just can't seem to figure out why they don't fit in this school year. Maybe you're new. Maybe you're not new but your BFF has a new BFF and you're left sitting alone at lunch.
      School can be tough.
Being new can be tough. Seeing your BFF abandon you can be tough. Trying to get someone to be your BFF can be tough. Sometimes, school can feel pointless when all you want to do is sit in your room alone, with only the company of your cat or dog or maybe your hamster and a box of chocolates. You might want to pick out chocolates one by one and sigh deeply whenever you find the gooey cherry filling chocolate that no one seems to like, because gooey cherry filling matches your mood perfectly. You give up on school and stop trying altogether.
Don't. Don't stop trying just because you don't have someone to eat lunch with, because this is one of the easiest things to change in school. Here's today's advice.
If you're new, you have it easy. I know it might not feel easy--at all--but you're going through so much change right now that pretty much everyone is going to try to reach out and welcome you in. New kids get all the help, whether it's from the teachers, the old students, or the rest of the staff. Don't get me wrong--being new is still hard. But there's support everywhere for you. Sometimes, all you have to do is ask if you can sit with a group at lunch, or if you can sit next to a nice, outgoing girl in class, or if you can have a little extra help from the teacher on an assignment.
For old students who never really made any BFF's, it might be a bit harder. Some people might have already labeled you as that shy kid who never hangs out with anyone, but you can change that. All you have to do is maybe hang out with some new kids, join in after school activities, or introduce yourself. You can even just say "hi" to people you sort of know and smile and be friendly to everyone. Your fellow students will want to be your friend before you know it.
And if your BFF from preschool ditches you? Not cool, but you can reconnect easily. All you have to do is ask them to hang out again some time. If they say they're busy, it's okay. Don't give up! You can always ask again, or ask them why they don't hang out with you anymore. You have to be honest with them and communicate well. Shutting them out never works. Even if things aren't the same between you anymore, don't be afraid to make new friends.
Remember this advice, and you'll go from friendless to friendly in no time. Hope this helps!
Yours Truly,
Princess Know-It-All

Welcome to September

Princess Know-It-All is here, and welcome to September!
Yes, it's that time of year again. Back to school, back to a daily routine, back to wrestling with lockers, back to trying to dress to impress, back to bare trees, back to rain. By now, most schools have probably either started or are starting very soon. I know, school might be a very harsh thought right now. But today I'm here to give you three things to look forward to, even if you're already wishing it was summer again.
Aren't you looking forward to seeing old friends and classmates this year? Whether you're in middle school, high school, or just starting middle or high school, you can't see everyone over the summer. There will be some people you haven't seen for months, and it's time to reconnect! Or if you haven't seen your close friends for a while, it's time to catch up on summer stories! I know when I go back to school, old faces are the ones I'm looking forward to the most.
But there are new faces to look forward to as well. New students, new friends, new teachers. It's time to meet and greet the new people at your school. Some of them might be with you for the rest of your public education, and it's better to have more friends than to have distant acquaintances. If you're an old student, it's time for you to reach out and welcome the new kids, and if you're new, it's time to connect and start off your school year the right way. No matter who you are, meeting new people is always fun!
And last, but certainly not least, there are lots of holidays and breaks to look forward to. Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, Christmas, winter break, mid winter break, and New Year's Day are just a few things that are worth the wait. The school season can be tough, but it'll be over before you know it! You might be wondering, this is an advice blog, where's the advice? Well, today's advice centers around school. No matter how hard it can be, do your best and you'll make it through. It doesn't matter how many friends you have, how pretty you are, or what you wear. This school year, maybe you can even have some fun at school! I enjoy school myself, and I know anyone else can, too. I wish you all an amazing September!

2015 Fashiontabulous Fall Trends

Princess Know-It-All is here, and I've come with some advice on fall trends! Who knows? This might just make up your mind for your first-day-of-school outfit.
We all know that fashion is an art. Just like painting or drawing, in fashion you must put together the perfect combination of colors, textures, and shapes to make a masterpiece. So some of us, such as girls like me, will want to wear a masterpiece every day, no matter what we're doing or where we're going (unless of course it's a Saturday when you're allowed to stay in your PJ's all day and do absolutely nothing). What I'm going to give you today is a peak at some of the latest trends for this school year.

  1. The bling is back! Time to rock those oversized earrings and bold, giant charm necklaces that may or may not make it through airport security, depending on how much weapon-like they look. (I may be exaggerating just a bit on that one.) Then there are those silver and gold bracelets! In other words--anyone watch Pretty Little Liars?--once again it's time to wear your Aria Montgomery earrings and your Hanna Marin necklaces.
  2. High waisted anything. This trend may have been originally started by Taylor Swift, among other celebrities. This trend includes jeans, shorts, skirts, etc. As long as they go above the hips they fall into this category, and the belly button-high pants seem to be especially popular Not too long ago I remember everyone loving those low waisted pants, but times in the fashion world change quickly, don't they?
  3. Skirts. I've seen lots of skirts this summer and last school year, much more than a few years ago when no one could part with their skinny jeans. Especially those wavy, flowy, practically cheerleader-style black skirts. This is one of my favorite fall trends.
  4. Plaid is back! Another of my favored fall trends. It started as just your typical long sleeved plaid shirt, but now there are tons of plaid skirts, plaid vests, plaid dresses and probably a lot of other plaid things I don't know of yet.
  5. Lace. I personally love lace, and I'm glad now that it's moved off of just wedding dresses and into every day life. Now people are rocking those long sleeved lace tops that so many girls wear over a black cami, or those lacey ballet flats, or those colorful lace headbands, or those flowery lace dresses, or those swirly lacey skirts. As you can see, lace is everywhere these days, although this might be more of a "last school year" trend by now.
  6. Toms and Converse. I've seen these shoe trends everywhere and I own a pair of each! Converse are a fashionable-yet-casual fashion statement, are popular to wear with those black skirts. The most "in" color and style currently are white or cream colored high tops. Toms are also somewhat casual but very popular, mainly in pink, black, or other solid colors. Both shoe brands make great finishing touches to first-day-of-school outfits!
I hope these fall trends help you out this year. Also, soon you'll be able to check out the latest trends on Instagram @princessknowitall! Have a great school year!

Back to School Season Has Begun

Princess Know-It-All is back! Sorry for the delay everyone. But just like you, I travel during the summer season too.
Speaking of the summer season, it is coming rapidly to a close! I know that a lot of you guys are dreading coming back to school, but some of you might be excited too. School may start soon for some of you, like, very soon. But for others it may be later. Either way, you've probably thought about new clothes, new binders, and new backpacks. I know I have. So today I'm going to help you out with a little back to school list and a quick piece of advice!
Whether you're starting a new school or the same, things will be a bit different when you go back. Maybe you're not as close to your BFF, or maybe you're way closer to your new group of friends. Or maybe you're still close to your BFF but your BFF has a giant crush on the most popular guy in the school. Whatever has happened while you've been off on summer vacay, just remember to be open to new things happening. Whenever I start another school year I always end up making new friends, and usually it's the people who are in some of my classes.
Here's another piece of advice. DO YOUR HOMEWORK. I recommend doing it as soon as you get home from school, especially if you're nearing the end of middle school or if you're in high school. And look at it this way: if you get it done right away you'll have plenty of time without parents bugging you about it to hang with friends and pick out cute outfits!
And last but not least, here's a list of your back-to-school essentials, some fashionista essentials, and some of my own recommendations:

  1. A backpack. Duh. You can't really go to school without something to carry your supplies, like a backpack or at least a shoulder bag. Backpacks can be a bit expensive, but as long as you use it well parents will usually let you buy a new on after a few years of having an old backpack. However, let me also say that while fashionable backpacks are awesome, also choose one that will last the school year. A cheaply made backpack will not last eight months or so of carrying heavy binders and textbooks.
  2. Pencils, paper, erasers, pens, binders, and/or notebooks. Often teachers will give out a list of requirements for the class, but you can almost always assume that you'll need these essential items. For pencils, I prefer mechanical because I've had bad luck with sharpening wooden pencils. Also, you can get them in different colors, and who doesn't love to personalize their pencils?
  3. Shoes. Usually you're rocking those flip-flops or other light weight shoes in the summer months, and by fall you've grown out of last school year's shoes! Time to head down to the mall and get some new shoes. Try out those fuzzy boots and combat boots that never seem to go out of style, ankle boots, flat tennis shoes, or ballet flats! You only really need one or two pairs, but I love getting lots of shoes.
  4. New clothes. Black or dark gray capris, open front knit sweaters, circle scarves, skinny jeans, and hoodies are some of my favorites. Dresses are making a comeback for everyday style too, and skirts make a great first-day-of-school ensemble. Just make sure there are no school dress code violations!
  5. Lotion, lip balm, or other moisturizer products for those dry winter months. No one likes dry skin! Lotion can help with those peeling-skin times and make your skin glow with health, and lip balm is great for those dry lips.
  6. Nail polish and outfit accessories! I love nail polish myself. It can really finish off your outfit. I'm not so into accessories like necklaces, bracelets, and earrings, but when I do wear them they totally give me a style boost!
Hope these back-to-school basics help you out with your coming school year. If you have any other school questions please ask! Email me at princessknowitall13@gmail.com, comment on the other page, or tweet your question @royalknowitall on Twitter!

Fashionably Fantabulously Fantastic Birthday Bash: Tips and Tricks

Princess Know-It-All is here and ready to give you some fab b-day tips and tricks to make your birthday the best it can possibly be!
Everyone loves their birthday--after all, it's a whole day to celebrate you being alive! So how do you make it as awesome as possible? Today I'm going to give you ten tips on making this day super special. You can use this advice for any other kind of party, too--like end-of-school, New Year's Day, or 4th of July parties, for example. So, what are we waiting for? Let's get started!

  1. A theme! This isn't totally necessary, but it's always fun to have a main theme to a party. Costume parties, where all the guests come dressed up, are a lot of fun, as well as diva parties, where the guests come wearing glamorous dresses and jewelry, and parties when everyone comes dressed up as their dream career.
  2. Decorations. Please, you can't have a real party without streamers and confetti. At least have a few birthday balloons, although I highly recommend a banner with your name written across it, a few bags of glitter, at least four balloons, and a wall covered in streamers and stars. Confetti cannons are your friend!
  3. Activities. Just like a sleepover, games like Truth or Dare are great. Fortunately Unfortunately is fun too (although it can go on for a long time if you get into the dying-and-being-reincarnated zone, which usually happens to me), as well as things like Monopoly, Charades, Musical Chairs, and other stuff like that. It's also fun to just dance around randomly, sing along to the big hit songs, and surf the internet for computer games (but with larger parties that doesn't work so well).
  4. Speaking of sleepovers, a sleepover is a lot of fun for your birthday! See the previous post, The How-To Guide of an Evilly Awesome Sleepover for more info. Another fun thing to do for a birthday bash is to have a pool party! It's hard to go wrong with a pool. Spa parties can also be a lot of fun.
  5. Food. A cake is a requirement for a birthday party, I suggest also having other snacks and foods such as cupcakes, ice cream sandwiches, milkshakes, soda, and fruit gummies. It's good to have sugary treats, but it's also a great idea to have some savory snacks as well, including pizza, mini sandwiches, maybe crackers and cheese, etc.
  6. Movies! Who doesn't love a good movie? I love Pixar and Disney movies because why not? A movie can make a party super fun, especially sleepovers. Just make sure that everyone agrees with the movie, because if someone doesn't want to watch it, then they might feel bored or uncomfortable.
  7. Ghost Stories! Who doesn't love a good scary story? Okay, probably a lot of people don't like scary stories, but still! Just sharing stories in general is a fun thing to do. And even if you think it's a "little kid" thing to do, I'll bet a creepy doll story could make you hide in the bottom of your sleeping bag.
I wish you all happy birthdays!

The How-To Guide of an Evilly Awesome Sleepover

Princess Know-It-All here!
Sorry that I haven't posted since Friday, I've been busy relaxing and soaking up the rest of July. As you may know, school will be starting soon. For some, mid to late August, but for others it may be September. Either way, you need to enjoy the rest of your summer! But I already posted on how to enjoy it, so I won't be posting about that. I will be telling you to get together with your friends and have at least one more totally awesome slumber party. Pretty much everyone has had sleepovers. Some of you may be the morning-person type (I am not one of those people) or you may be a night owl. Okay, yes. Pretty much everyone knows how to have an awesome sleepover, but we also know how tough it can be having a sleepover with people who want to go to bed no later than ten pm. But I'll still give you all a few tips on how to have awesome sleepovers anyways.

  1.  So, you've all heard of Netflix, I assume. That is a very important part of a sleepover. If you do have Netflix, then at your party you should totally watch Mean Girls. Not Mean Girls 2, that one is nowhere close to the awesomeness of the first movie. If you don't have Netflix, then ask your parents to try a free trial.
  2. You know what else is fun? Truth or Dare. Okay, everyone has that friend that chickens out on a lot of dares, but still. There are also plenty of other games like Kill, Date, Marry, or Fortunately Unfortunately. These games are lots of fun and can also bring out the evil side of you and your friends. Warning: watch out while playing Kill, Date, Marry. Your friends will assign the people you hate most during this game.
  3. Crush talk. Please, you can't have a sleepover without this. Like me, you may have a friend who won't talk, but keep trying to pry it out of them. Hopefully it won't be too hard!
  4. Junk food is a sleepovers best friend, am I right? You just can't not eat unhealthy junk at a sleepover, it's like the sleepover law. You have to have buttery popcorn with M&M's, hot cocoa or milkshakes, bags full of chips, etc. Junk food=awesome slumber party.
  5. If you're bored, try board games! Everyone loves Clue and Monopoly (even though it destroys friendships), you might even want to try Risk (Warning: this may take a very long time.)
  6.  Okay, now we're getting into the I-Wanna-Go-To-Bed-At-9-pm People. It's hard to keep them awake, so you might as well start everything early if you want to get to it all. You could also finish up some of the activities in the morning, or maybe force your friend to stay up. It may be hard, but do your best.
I hope you all have great sleepovers and use some of my tips!

Bestie Competition, Anyone?

Princess Know-It-All here, with a little public service advice for all those who feel like losers (spoiler alert: you're NOT a loser!) compared to their practically perfect BFFs.
Okay, so how many of you have ever been jealous of your best friend? Seriously. Even if you haven't ever been jealous of them, you have to admit they almost always have something cool that you don't. A trampoline? A talent for dancing? They're super pretty and get all the guys? Basically, pretty much everyone has something you don't. I mean, we're all completely different people! So what do you do if it feels like you're always stuck in your BFF's shadow, you're always left at home while they go to all the awesome places and do all the awesome stuff and be awesomely talented without you?
First things first, look at yourself. I don't mean literally, like looking in a mirror or something (you can do that too, though), look at your accomplishments. What do you love to do? What are you good at? What do your parents or other friends praise you for? You must have some talent that other people love about you, even if you haven't figured it out yet. And who knows? Maybe your BFF is jealous of you for having that cool talent that they don't have.
Second, figure out what you want of yourself and do something about it. Why are you jealous of your best friend? Maybe they're really good at soccer and you're bad at it. So what? Just keep having fun with the activities that you're really good at, and if you're not in any clubs, join some! Or ask your BFF to hang out and help you with developing your soccer skills. Maybe they're really pretty. This time, literally look at yourself in a mirror. You might be prettier than you remember, after all that negative self talk. And if not, who cares, you're obviously not an ugly freak if you became best friends with a "really pretty" person. And what if your bestie has fashionable clothes and you don't? Ask your parents to buy you some new ones! As long as you're also giving away those old, lame clothes to thrift shops or wherever, your parents will be more likely to get you trendy ones.
And third, you were obviously good enough to be your bestie's BFF. But if you still feel insecure about this friendship, talk to them. Being honest with your BFF is one of the best ways to make sure you don't drift apart. It might be hard--really hard--and maybe pretty awkward at first, too, but it will get easier, and if your BFF really is your BFF, they won't push you away for being honest.
Most importantly, remember that no matter what, comparing yourself to others is usually how you get jealous in the first place. Stop comparing and just have fun with your best friend!

Six Things to Make Your Summer Perfect

Princess Know-It-All here,
Don't you all just love summer? Blue skies, vacations, the beach, the pool, and endless lazy days. I don't know about you, but where I live that's known for rain has been boiling (if you count ninety degrees boiling). I'm just surprised that it's already the middle of the summer. I still remember staring at the clock at school wanting to just crawl into my bed and watch Netflix or Hulu. Well, I still feel like that sometimes. I'm not looking forward to go back to school and deal with some people, if you know what I mean. So I intend to enjoy my summer as long as I can, like the rest of you are. So let me give you some tips on how to enjoy the rest of your summer!

  1. Netflix. I know that most of you want to spend your summer outside, but there's nothing wrong with one day in bed with your laptop binge watching TV shows.
  2. Music. Like, you can't go wrong with a legit playlist. Really, you plug in your headphones and you get the house to yourself, and bam! Your whole world just became a music video.
  3. Ice cream and snow cones. We all have those totally hot summer days where all you can is imagine a cold ice cream cone or an icy snow cone with that amazing artificial syrup stuff. C'mon, you need at least one of those this summer.
  4. The pool or beach. Not everyone has a beach nearby, but hopefully there's a swimming pool somewhere! Where I live, we can just drive to the beach and be there within twenty minutes. But you can't go wrong with a fun day at the pool, right? Okay, sure. There are a few scenarios that I could imagine not being so fun, but still!
  5. Just one vacation. We all need to get away during our summer break, even if it's just for a day or two.
  6. Friends. Seriously, there's no summer without a friend. All these things I said are amazing alone, but if you do them with a friend you will have the ultimate summer. A sleepover binge watching your favorite TV shows with your bestie? Yes please. Dance parties with the best new beat with that one crazy friend? So fun. A quick stop at the ice cream shop or the snow cone stand on your way to her house? Totally. A fun day at the beach(including splash wars)? Count me in. And a vacation with just you, your family, and your bestest bestie in the entire world? I wouldn't miss it.
These elements will make your summer much better, so try to do at least one of these things! Enjoy the rest of your summer!
